Expansive Mortar (HSCA): The Silent, Non-Explosive Solution for Rock and Concrete Breaking

Expansive mortar — also called silent cracking agent, static cracking agent, or HSCA (Soundless Cracking Agent) — is a powder cement-based chemical material. When mixed with water, it undergoes a hydration reaction that generates an enormous expansive pressure of up to 18,000 PSI (over 122 MPa). This pressure safely splits rock or concrete without noise, without vibration, without flying debris, and without explosives. It is a proven, controlled, and environmentally responsible alternative to traditional blasting and hydraulic splitting.

Key Features and Advantages

  • Safe and Eco-friendly: Non-toxic and pollution-free. No blasting permit or special qualification is required, making it ideal for densely populated areas, indoor work, and vibration-sensitive sites.
  • Working Principle: It relies on the static pressure generated by material solidification and expansion — far exceeding the tensile strength of rock and concrete — to crack the target object cleanly.
  • Precise and Controllable: Cracking direction and timing can be managed through hole layout and model selection, delivering clean breaks with minimal over-break.
  • Main Applications:
    • Quarrying marble, granite, and other dimension stone.
    • Demolishing reinforced concrete foundations, columns, large boulders, and retaining walls.
    • Tunnel excavation, trench digging, and underwater demolition (plastic sleeves are required for underwater use).

Standard Usage Steps

  1. Drilling: Drill holes in the target rock or concrete as required (typically 38–50 mm diameter, 30–60 cm spacing, with depth reaching 70–90% of the hole depth).
  2. Cleaning: Thoroughly clear dust and standing water from the holes before pouring.
  3. Mixing: Mix the powder with water in proportion until a uniform slurry forms (a common ratio is about 5 kg powder to 1.5 L water).
  4. Pouring: Pour the slurry into the holes within 10–15 minutes of mixing, leaving about 15 mm of space at the top, and tamp gently to remove trapped air.
  5. Reaction: Cracks typically begin to appear within 40–60 minutes, with full expansion and cracking completed within 24–48 hours.

Temperature-Based Model Selection

ModelApplication Temperature
HSCA-1High temperature (25°C – 40°C)
HSCA-2Normal temperature (10°C – 25°C)
HSCA-3Low temperature (5°C – 10°C)

Different models are produced to control the reaction speed according to the ambient construction temperature, ensuring reliable performance across seasons and climates.

Why Choose Expansive Mortar Over Traditional Blasting?

  • No explosives licence, no special permits, and no complex logistics.
  • No noise, no ground vibration, and no fly-rock — safe near buildings, pipelines, and people.
  • Low dust and low environmental impact, suitable for urban and indoor demolition.
  • Simple operation with basic drilling equipment and minimal training.

Need Help Choosing the Right Model?

If you plan to use expansive mortar, tell us:

  • What material are you breaking — ordinary concrete, reinforced concrete, or natural rock?
  • What is the approximate ambient temperature at your site?

We can help you select the most accurate model and estimate the dosage for your project.
